Last night, Jefferies analyst Edison Lee dropped a bombshell in Barron's: the all-glass iPhone, long rumored for the 20th anniversary, is allegedly canceled due to poor production yields. For those of us who've been waiting for Apple to break out of its metal-and-glass rut, that felt like a gut punch. Steve Jobs himself once dreamed of a unibody glass iPhone, and for years, fans have pointed to it as the cure for Apple's design stagnation.

But hold on. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman quickly countered, saying Apple is still planning a glass-centric iPhone for 2026, codenamed V73 and V74. The design? Glass on the front and back, curving into a thin metal frame. It's not the pure glass monolith Jobs envisioned—that version was apparently abandoned early due to manufacturing challenges. Separating Hype from Reality

The confusion boils down to a classic case of mixed signals. Edison Lee's report was more than just a tech analysis—it came with a stock downgrade that sent Apple shares down nearly 3% at one point. Lee's concern: canceling the all-glass iPhone would hurt Apple's ability to keep selling high-end phones. Fair enough. But Gurman's sources say the pure glass version was never really on the table—the tech just isn't there yet. Instead, iPhone 20 will "emphasize" glass, using a curved glass design that transitions into a slim metal rim. That's a far cry from a full unibody glass shell.

Why the Glass Dream Is Hard to Realize

Let's be honest: making a phone entirely out of glass is a materials science nightmare. You need glass that's strong enough to survive drops, scratch-resistant, and transparent for antennas.
